How Did Blondin Cross Niagara Falls On a Tightrope? November 11, 2010. Jean Francois Grandet, who performed under the name of Blondin because of his flowing blond hair, was the daredevil supreme. In 1859, he had a three-inch rope strung 1,1000 feet across Niagara Falls, 160 feet above the raging waters. Balancing himself with a 40-foot pole, the intrepid Frenchman pedaled over the Falls on a bicycle. One of his most fantastic feats was to walk halfway out on the brightly lighted rope aft.

An enormous amount of firewood is needed to fire the evaporator. Tulip poplar is the favored fuel, prized for its fast and hot burning properties. The farm was logged in the 1960s and the forest that grows there today is rife with maturing poplars and other fast growing trees common to first generation forests. Also naturally abundant are maples, beech, hickory and oak to name a few.
